Japanese inspirations

With a long tradition of crafting exquisite handmade books, Japan is endlessly inspiring to me.

I wanted to make some books that capture the quiet simplicity and rustic elegance of the “Japanese” look.

Fortunately, I found some  fabrics that do just that. They are as pretty as I can imagine.
Here are three examples.

Jumping fish with yellow paper.

Simple graphics.

The parts before stitching.

Vines on a rough woven cloth.

Sits quietly…

Work in progress using simple tools.

Cherry blossoms.

Coptic binding.
